Martin Lifts Kings Over Grizzlies In OT

POSTED: 11:05 pm PDT March 26, 2008

(Sports Network) - Kevin Martin scored 36 points, including the difference-making free throws with seven seconds left, and the Sacramento Kings continued their home dominance of the Memphis Grizzlies by squeezing out a 107-106 overtime win at ARCO Arena.

Martin hit 16-of-16 free throw attempts, and the Kings went 30-for-31 as a team en route to snapping a three-game losing streak. Ron Artest added 24 points, while Brad Miller scored 15 to go with a game-high 17 boards.

"It was definitely a sloppy game out there tonight," Martin said. "I think everyone is tired right now. You can get tired mentally and I think that was part of the night."

Hakim Warrick led Memphis with 26 points and eight rebounds, and Kyle Lowry went for 16 points, five assists and five boards off the bench for the Grizzlies, losers of two straight overall and 19 straight in Sacramento.

"We did a good job of not putting our heads down," Warrick said. "I think my teammates were doing a great job of getting me the ball. It wasn't falling as much in the second half. That's how it goes. It was a tough physical game."

Martin scored the first four overtime points to give the Kings a cushion, but Rudy Gay hit a baseline jumper and threw down a putback dunk to put Memphis up 104-102 with about a minute and a half to go in OT. Miller than hit a tough fallaway shot off the glass and drew a foul with 1:14 showing on the clock.

Miller hit the free throw for a one-point Kings advantage, but Warrick drew a foul with 26.2 ticks to go at the other end. He hit both free throws, staking Memphis to a 106-105 lead.

Out of a timeout, Martin penetrated the lane only to find Memphis' Mike Miller planted in the lane. Miller appeared to be firmly in position, but was called for a blocking foul - his sixth - ending his night and sending Martin to the line.

Martin continued his perfect night by draining both at the stripe, and Lowry's drive attempt went begging in the waning seconds, securing the win for the Kings.

Mikki Moore finished with 15 points and seven boards for Sacramento, which shot just 39.8 percent from the floor.

Miller had 14 and Gay and Javaris Crittenton each totaled 13 for Memphis.

Memphis led 24-23 after one quarter, but Sacramento remained close throughout the first half. A 10-2 Grizzlies run, capped by a Warrick three and a Javaris Crittenton bucket, made it 50-42 at the break.

Sacramento mounted a 24-7 run during the middle stages of the third to turn a 57-48 deficit into a 72-64 lead with about two minutes left in the period. Memphis got back within five with a mini-spurt, but still trailed 80-73 going to the fourth.

Garcia's bucket made it an 87-77 Kings lead with just over 10 minutes remaining, but Memphis scored 10 unanswered - capped by Lowry's hoop - to pull back even.

Gay hit a pull-up jumper to tie that game at 96 with just over a minute left, then Mikki Moore grabbed Artest's miss and converted the putback for a two- point Kings advantage. But Moore missed the ensuing free throw - the first Kings miss from the line all night - and Lowry scored and drew a foul at the other end.

Lowry missed his free throw with 29.5 ticks on the clock, and each team had a chance to win it in regulation. Sacramento went to Artest in the post, but Gay swatted his shot, and Memphis grabbed the board and called timeout. The game went to the extra session after Gay's pull-up jumper rimmed out as time expired.

Game Notes

Sacramento had 18 turnovers, but forced 23 Memphis giveaways...The Kings made just 7-of-30 three-point attempts (23 percent), while the Grizzlies were just 6-for-23 (26 percent)...Artest had six steals.
