SEATTLE -- A Seattle woman who was trapped in the flooded basement of her Madison Park home drowned Thursday night, firefighters said.Firefighters cut a hole in the floor to pull her out of the windowless basement after neighbors heard her screaming that she was trapped, but she was pronounced dead after being taken to Harborview Medical Center. "Somehow, the door shut, and she couldn't open the door because of the water pressure," Fire Department spokeswoman Helen Fitzpatrick said. The woman had apparently gone downstairs to get some belongings.Neighbor Eric Hinz told KIRO 7 Eyewitness News his roommate tried to save her."He looked in the basement and there was water completely filling the basement 100 percent all the way up the stairs," Hinz said.Neighbors said it appeared the flash flood was caused by a hillside that gave way above the home.
