Former Car Dealership Owner Compensates Theft Victim

SEATTLE -- The former owner of a West Seattle car dealership gave $70,000 to compensate a customer who had that much money stolen in crimes blamed on dealership employees.Steve Huling gave a check Tuesday morning to a prosecutor on behalf of the customer who is in Western State Hospital in Tacoma.Huling is not charged or accused of any wrongdoing at the Huling Brothers dealership. He said his family was outraged at the injustice.In a written statement, Huling expressed his disgust with three of his former employees.“Our family is outraged by this blatant and isolated incident at our dealership,” said Huling, who compensated the customer with personal funds.King County prosecutors said car salesmen took advantage of the mentally ill man by selling him a $30,000 truck and burglarized his home of $70,000.Two of the three accused men appeared in King County court Tuesday morning. The third suspect in the case is currently in jail in Snohomish County. All three are facing serious charges.Huling has already reimbursed the cost of the truck.The car dealership was sold earlier this month and the new owners have no connection to the alleged crimes.
