Sister, Mother Of Slaying Victim Speaks Out

Two suspects in the slaying of a Tumwater man whose body was found in the bed of his pickup truck are in custody in Las Vegas, police said.

The two suspects -- a 27-year-old woman and a 47-year-old man -- were arrested overnight. Police said agents with the U.S. Marshall's office and Las Vegas police found the two and took them into custody.

Tumwater police said investigators have not confirmed the motive behind the killing of Jerry Totten, 69.

“It’s hard to believe how cruel people can be,” Jerry Totten’s sister, Shirley Inman said.

Totten's body was found in the back of his pickup truck in an impound yard.

According to Inman, the two suspects were people Totten had gone out of his way to help in the past.

“She lived in a trailer on his property and he helped her so much,” Inman said.

Totten’s body was discovered after his family reported him missing and police checked the truck, which had been impounded Jan. 30 after it was found off Old Olympic Highway near Shelton.

According to Totten’s family, members of the family had called his home and the two suspects answered and said he was at the store, when he was actually dead.

“I hope they hang them both, I really do, I’ve never really been much of a believer in that but it wouldn’t hurt my feelings one bit if they did,” Totten’s mother, Lois Howarth said.
