Police have identified the man they're seeking in the shooting of a 17-year-old girl outside a Lakewood motel on Thursday morning and are asking him to turn himself in.

The suspect is Johnathan Poole, 21. Police said the victim told them the shooting was an accident, and that she believes Pool did not intend to harm her.

Police said the girl was shot in both upper thighs in a parking lot at the Western Inn on 99th Street and South Tacoma Way at about 7 a.m.

She was taken to Madigan Hospital with wounds that are not life-threatening, police said.

Police said it appeared the shooting was connected to a party that included underage drinkers in one of the motel's rooms.

Police said they served a search warrant at the room and found marijuana and a container that might have had crack cocaine inside.

Police said Pool was seen leaving the area in an older, yellow Chevrolet Nova with a black hood and gray primer spots.
