Threatening Calls Made To UW Gymnastics Team Members

Seattle and University of Washington police are investigating threatening calls to members of the gymnastics team made by a suspected stalker, KIRO 7 Eyewitness News reported.

The investigation began last week after a 19-year-old student reported she received several calls on her cell phone from someone who referred to her by name and described what she was wearing the night before.

PERSONAL SAFETY INFORMATION

Her cell phone indicated the call came from a private number, according to a police report.

"If you don't want trouble, don't go out of the house today," the caller said, according to the police report.

Police said they considered the call a veiled threat.

Police said four other team members may have also gotten calls from the same person.

University of Washington Sports Information Director Richard Kilwien said part of the culture of the sport attracts stalkers.

He told KIRO 7 Eyewitness News reporter Amy Clancy that because it's part of the culture, the gymnastics team is reminded of personal safety and that there is an extra emphasis on safety.
