A burglary suspect who was surrounded by police and deputies in Sedro-Woolley fatally shot himself early Wednesday morning.

Police Chief Doug Wood said the 30-year-old Sedro-Woolley man was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle where he died.

Police had responded to an alarm about 1:30 a.m. at a service station on Highway 20. They found a broken window and saw an armed man inside.

Wood said the man fired several shots that broke windows, but no officers were hit.

When Skagit County sheriff's deputies arrived as back-up, the man walked out of the station to a wooded area, holding the gun to his head, and shot himself.
