Police Arrest Student With Guns Stolen From Trooper's Home

FEDERAL WAY, Wash. -- A student with three loaded handguns that had been stolen from a state trooper's home was arrested on Thursday at Todd Beamer High School in Federal Way.KIRO 7 Eyewitness News reported that the guns confiscated in the incident were among six weapons taken during a burglary at the home of a Washington State Patrol Trooper on Friday morning near Puyallup.It wasn't immediately clear where the other three weapons are.

The guns were discovered after another student text-messaged her parents about the gun-toting student. The parents then called school officials.The school resource officer, who is also a Federal Way police officer, the school principal and another Federal Way police officer found the student in a hallway. He was carrying the loaded weapons and additional ammunition, school officials said.“Their student had come to him expressing a concern about a rumor, so immediately our school resource officer and myself walked down, found the student and brought him into custody,” Todd Beamer School Principal, Josh Garcia said.

The student, a sophomore, is 15 or 16 years old, police said. He is in Federal Way police custody, KIRO 7 Eyewitness News reported.Police said the school's principal described the student as "a good kid," and that he said he wanted to sell the guns.“I wouldn’t characterize any of my kids as troublemakers,” Garcia said.Students were sent home after the lockdown was lifted at 1:51 p.m., about 15 minutes before normal end of the school day.No one was hurt.School officials said that all evening activities will go on as normal and school will be in session Friday.Parents and students can expect to receive more information through the school phone system and Web site, and a paper letter will go out Friday.
