Seattle Nursing Home Under Investigation

A Seattle nursing home is not accepting any new patients while the state investigates a number of complaints against it, KIRO 7 Eyewitness News reported.

Family members of Julie Sampson told KIRO 7 Eyewitness News that neglect by staff at the Seattle Medical and Rehabilitation Center contributed to her death.

Sampson was sent to the center after suffering a stroke during surgery in November 2005.

Sampson's sister said she received five baths in eight months.

"It was not clean. The staff was not a friendly staff. She felt that she was not being treated," said Mary Sampson.

Mary Sampson said after eight months at the center, a social worker decided Julie was well enough to go home. Two days later, she was back in the hospital.

"They first thought that she had another stroke, but they did a CAT scan and found out she had a brain bleed. So she died," Mary Sampson said.

They complained to the state Department of Social and Health Services, which was already investigating other complaints.

The state investigation may be complete by Friday.

The center did not return calls for comment.
