Commissioners' Brawl Lands 1 In Jail, Other In Hospital

One Pierce County Fire Commissioner is in the hospital and another in jail Tuesday after the two men got into a fight Tuesday morning during a break in a commission meeting, reported KIRO 7 Eyewitness News reporter Kevin McCarty.

Witnesses said that immediately before the fight, commissioner James Bosch was talking to commissioner Allen Yanity’s wife. Bosch was reported to have said loudly, "Are you threatening me?," before Yanity jumped over a desk and hit Bosch in the head with a coffee cup, according to witnesses.

Bosch is in Tacoma General Hospital recovering from his injuries.

Yanity is in the custody of the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department, according to police spokesman Detective Ed Troyer.

According to the Peninsula Gateway, the feud between the two Fire District 16 commissioners has been escalating since Yanity took office in 2006.

Since then, both commissioners have filed opposing complaints against each other with the Pierce County Sheriff's Department.

Constituents earlier this month said they are fed up with the feud between the commissioners and gave the three-member board an ultimatum to end it or resign.

Others suggested that the board be expanded from three to five members.
