Bellingham police are asking for the public's help in locating Charles F. Boome in connection with a rape and burglary investigation.

According to police, on April 27, they were called to three separate reports of crime within the 500 and 600 blocks of East Maple Street.

Police investigated one rape, one burglary and one suspicious circumstance. The victims were all women in their 20s.

"These crimes caused significant concern in the Sehome neighborhood and throughout the city," Police Chief Randall H. Carroll said.

The victim of the rape underwent a sexual assault exam that resulted in discovery of DNA from the suspect.

Investigators sent the sample to a private lab in Texas that developed an unknown DNA profile and sent the profile to the Washington State Patrol.

The WSP crime lab in Seattle compared the unknown profile against known DNA profiles in the Combined Index System and were able to match Boome's DNA with the unknown profile.

Boome, a convicted sex offender, had DNA samples entered into the system as a result of previous offenses.

According to police, Boome was convicted of third-degree child molestation in 2001 and is a registered sex offender; however a warrant was issued and is still valid for failure to register as a sex offender in December 2006.

Boome is described as Native American, 5 feet 7 inches tall, 170 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Hutchings at 360-676-6921 or after business hours at 360-676-6941.
