FBI Investigating Unusual Ferry Passengers

Posted: 4:41 pm PDT August 20, 2007Updated: 3:49 pm PDT August 21, 2007

The Seattle Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Washington Joint Analytical Center are asking for the public’s help identifying two individuals who have been seen aboard Washington state ferries on several occasions.

According to authorities, the two men have exhibited unusual behavior while aboard the ferries.

Agents said the men have shown an excessive interest in the ferries.

Numerous passengers and ferry employees have reported the strange behavior.

The FBI published photos of the men that were taken by ferry workers this month.

The men are not accused of committing a crime.

The FBI and WAJAC said the behavior may be innocuous but they would like to resolve the reports.

Ferry officials said they have tightened security under the guidance of the US Coast Guard and the Washington State Patrol.

Officials said the men’s appearance played no part in the investigation.

“They appear to be men who are not white men. Was that one of the reasons that they were suspicious?” asked KIRO 7 Eyewitness News reporter Deborah Horne.

“No. I don’t think there was any categorizing of them at all. It’s more about the behaviors they were engaged in,” said Marta Coursey of Washington State Ferries.

The FBI said it is unusual to seek the public’s help in identifying anyone who appears to have committed no crime, but with heightened concerns since the Sept. 11 attacks, they want to ensure the ferries remain safe.

Anyone with information is asked to call 206-622-0460.
