A female corrections officer with the Pierce County Jail has been arrested on suspicion of having sex with a male inmate, KIRO 7 Eyewitness News has learned.

The 29-year-old officer was booked into jail Friday afternoon, officials told KIRO 7 Eyewitness News reporter Kevin McCarty.

The officer faces a charge of custodial sexual misconduct.

According to the Pierce County Corrections Office, the officer has been employed by the county for less than a year and was still on probationary status at the time of the incident.

The corrections office received a tip that the officer was involved in inappropriate activity with an inmate and they were able to confirm it, KIRO 7 Eyewitness News reported

According to the corrections office, they are unable to say how they confirmed the allegation.

The sheriff's office has placed the officer on unpaid administrative leave pending an investigation.

It is unclear if the officer and inmate knew each other prior to the inmate’s incarceration.

The inmate remains in jail.
