Evergreen Student Raped At Gunpoint In Apartment

An Evergreen State College student said she was raped at gunpoint in her apartment on campus.

“It really just blew my mind that it actually did happen here,” student Adrienne Slack said.

College spokesman Todd Sprague said campus police responded within two minutes after getting a call from the ground floor apartment early Monday morning.

He said the student told officers an unknown man wearing a ski mask entered through a window, threatened her with a handgun, assaulted her and left -- again through a window.

“She woke up and there was an intruder in her room dressed in dark clothing, and a ski mask on. He showed her a gun and threatened her with it,” Sprague said.

According to campus police, the man raped the woman as two of her roommates slept in the other bedrooms.

“It really makes your heart fall into your stomach and you think ‘wow that would be terrible,’” student Michelle Olsen said.

Campus police hope to be sending some evidence in to the state crime lab for DNA testing and they’re taking steps to keep students safe.

“We’ve beefed up our patrols in the housing area,” Chief Ed Sorger with the Evergreen State College police said.

Students around campus are worried about their own safety but their thoughts are also with their classmate who was attacked.

“I’ve known her for quite a while. She’s been a co-student in my classes, it rips my heart out to hear it happened to her,” student Dave Stiles said.

“Our thoughts and our prayers are with her, and we hope she is in a safe environment right now and we’re all praying for her,” Slack said.
