Ballard Bridge Reopens After 2-Hour Closure

Posted: 1:17 pm PDT October 19, 2007Updated: 4:02 pm PDT October 19, 2007

The Ballard Bridge has reopened, two hours after it was closed to cars because the bridge deck wouldn't come down completely.

A KIRO 7 Eyewitness News photographer said the drawbridge was raised for boat traffic at about 12:45 p.m. When it was lowered, the southern section would not lock into place.

At about 3:45 p.m., the bridge was lowered and vehicular traffic flowed across it again.

The Ballard Bridge, built in 1917, crosses the Lake Washington Ship Canal along 15th Street and connects Ballard with the Magnolia and Queen Anne neighborhoods, according to the Seattle Department of Transportation's Web site.
