Everett Police Refer Charges For Former Sultan Chief

SULTAN, Wash. -- Whatcom County prosecutors are considering charging former Sultan Police Chief Fred Walser crimes, following an exclusive KIRO Team 7 Investigation into personnel issues inside his department.Back in June, Walser confirmed to KIRO Team 7 Investigators that he was accused of withholding information from detectives who were looking into alleged wrong-doing by his top aide.Now Everett Police say they've finished an investigation-- and they have referred that Walser be charged with tampering with evidence, obstructing a law-enforcement officer, official misconduct and making a false or misleading statement to a public servant.Walser had no comment Tuesday night on the report- saying he had not read it.Previously, he denied any wrongdoing and he's suing the city of Sultan for $10 million.
