Deputies Investigate Streetcar Sabotage Attempt

SEATTLE -- Someone tried to damage the Seattle streetcar on its first day of operation, a sheriff’s office spokesman told KIRO 7 Eyewitness News.John Urquhart said police found four or five ball bearings the size of handballs on the tracks of the new streetcar line.The ball bearings were found at about 5:15 p.m. Wednesday between Westlake Avenue and Thomas Street.Urquhart said the ball bearings could have caused serious damage to the streetcars. He said the incidents are being investigated as felonies.No trains were damaged and no one was hurt.
