Man In Wheelchair Struck In Hit-And-Run

POSTED: 7:47 am PST January 3, 2008
UPDATED: 7:59 am PST January 3, 2008

King County sheriff's deputies are searching for the driver of a van they said hit a man as he crossed the street in his wheelchair.

John McAllister said he was hit on New Year's Eve as he returned to his Kent home from a trip to the grocery store.

McAllister said other cars stopped but a van didn’t, hitting him and knocking him from his chair.

Witnesses said the van’s driver stopped, looked at McAllister lying unconscious in the street, and then fled the scene.

Police said the van is a burgundy or maroon 1987 Ford Aerostar with license 378 NEB. It may have a broken driver’s side window.

Authorities ask anyone with who sees the van or has information on the incident to call 911.
