EVERETT -- A criminal investigation is underway into the boiling death of a monkey at a North Sound primate research lab.

Snohomish County Prosecutor, Janice Ellis, confirmed today, the Everett police department "is looking at the issue of possible animal cruelty at SNBL."

This action comes as a direct result of an undercover KIRO Team 7 Investigation into the facility. We discovered that a cleaning crew placed a healthy, female monkey into a steaming, hot rack-washer - killing the animal.

The National Humane Society also issued a release today, asking local prosecutors for "meaningful" penalties for those involved in the death of the monkey.
