SEATTLE -- Small glass roses sold as novelty items in local stores can be used as drug paraphernalia that a local treatment center wants banned, KIRO 7 Eyewitness News reported. The little flowers in thin glass tubes are sold in many Seattle-area convenience stores and can be used as crack pipes.
VIDEO: Novelty Item Doubles As Drug Tool"On the exterior, you see two glass vials with miniature roses inside, with a metallic cap on one side. For those that are involved with the treatment with addiction, or those directly involved with addiction, those are pipes that are used for smoking crack or crystal meth," said Jerry O'Day of Schick Shadel Hospital.Pierce County has a law banning glass roses. Spokane is reviewing its drug paraphernalia law and is considering a ban on the items, said KIRO 7 Eyewitness News reporter Chris Egert."Good job to Pierce County. Spokane is looking at it as well. I think it's a good move," said O'Day, who added that he would like to see a ban in the Seattle area.Clerks who sold the tubes claimed not to know what they were, Egert said. But in some cases, stores had them hidden behind the counter.
