Bones Found Near Pike Place Market Are Not Human

Posted: 8:41 am PST February 27, 2008Updated: 5:02 pm PST February 27, 2008

Police say bones found under a building near the Pike Place Market are from an animal.

Bones and shells were found during a remodeling project at the Virginia Inn Tuesday.

Members of Seattle's Duwamish tribe gathered at the corner of First and Virginia Wednesday morning -- when it was believed the bones were human -- to honor the remains they thought were one of their ancestors.

Police later said the bones may be from a cat or other small animal.
