MONROE, Wash. -- A graphic video on the Web site YouTube has lead to death threats toward a soldier and his family, reported KIRO 7 Eyewitness News. The video shows two Marines who are apparently overseas. One is holding what appears to be a puppy, which is then thrown off a cliff. One of the Marines is called by name in the video, which has led to the man becoming the target of hate mail on thousands of Web sites. The Marine’s family, who lives in Monroe, has received death threats over the phone.KIRO 7 Eyewitness News reporter Gary Horcher talked to a woman who lives in the family’s neighborhood, but declined to be identified by more than her first name.“The hatred that’s gone on towards this family is completely out of control, and I think it’s just people looking for something. They hate already, so now they’re just focusing their hate on this poor family and it’s completely wrong," said Dana.Police and sheriff’s deputies are watching the area where the Marine's family lives and warned KIRO 7 news crews not to go near the family’s home. The Marine Corps released a statement from Hawaii, where the Marine seen in the video is based.“The video is shocking and deplorable and is contrary to the high standards we expect of every Marine. The Marine Corps does not tolerate this type of behavior, and will take appropriate action," it read. The family has disconnected their phone. The authenticity of what is shown in the video has not been verified.
