Mother Passed Out In Van While Drunken Teen Drove Off Road, Police Say

ISSAQUAH, Wash. -- An intoxicated 14-year-old girl was behind the wheel of a van that went off state Route 18 at the Tiger Mountain summit and rolled several times early Tuesday morning, troopers said.The Washington State Patrol said the girl’s mother was passed out in the passenger seat of the 1997 Dodge Caravan when the crash occurred.

The Dodge van was being driven erratically east on SR 18 at the summit when it went off the highway, up an embankment and rolled over, ejecting the driver out a rear window, troopers said.Both the girl her 32-year-old mother were injured. Police said the girl suffered serious head injuries and her mother had minor injuries.Medics took both of the injured to Overlake Hospital in Bellevue.Investigators said the 14-year-old girl could face charges of vehicular assault, driving under the influence and driving without a license.The girl’s mother is facing possible charges of allowing a minor to drive, reckless endangerment, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, and other charges as the investigation progresses.
