An anonymous tip led to the arrest of a level-three sex offender in Ferndale, police said.

Police said they received a tip at 5:20 p.m. on Friday that the sex offender William A. Blythe was staying at a residence in the 6300 block of Portal Way in Ferndale.

Police located him and arrested him without incident. He is currently at the Whatcom County Jail.

Blythe was registered as a transient but has not checked in with law enforcement as required since Oct. 17, 2007.

The Pierce County Sheriff’s Department reported Blythe had convictions from 1993 that included the rape of a 13-month-old baby and a family member as well as the molestation of a 7-year-old boy.

Blythe previously claimed to police to have sexually assaulted as many as 35 victims of ages ranging from 1 to 17 years old. He also claimed to have committed sex crimes involving animals, official documents said.
