Feces Spread On Windows Of Pioneer Square Art Gallery

Posted: 12:25 pm PDT March 24, 2008Updated: 1:43 pm PDT March 24, 2008

A large window of a Pioneer Square art gallery was smashed Saturday night and feces was spread across the windows earlier that day, the gallery owner said.

The owner of the Benham Gallery, Marita Holdaway, said the window was broken with a metal Seattle Utility cover.

Holdaway placed a note on the temporary plastic covering the broken glass that read:

“We believe our window was smashed by a person who was challenged by the content of this exhibition.

"The subjects of these artworks have experienced enough of this kind of cowardliness and violence.

"We are happy to discuss our curatorial decisions with anyone who wishes to talk with us instead of experiencing this kind of behavior.”

The gallery is currently hosting an exhibition called Erotic Beauty.
