OLYMPIA, Wash. -- An unusual spring snowstorm that dumped several inches of snow in some lowland areas sent cars spinning out, delayed schools and may have played a role in a fatal crash early Thursday morning, KIRO 7 Eyewitness News reported.Several school districts said classes will begin late because of the snow. VIDEO: Snow Threatens Parts Of Western WashingtonCars slid on slick roads covered by snow and ice. Troopers said there were several spinouts overnight on the Tacoma Narrows Bridge and several along Interstate 5 in Tacoma and Federal Way.East of Auburn, a Washington State Patrol trooper was investigating several single-car spinouts along Highway 18 when a car crashed into the back of his patrol car. The driver was killed.The trooper was outside of the patrol car and was not hurt, said KIRO 7 Eyewitness News reporter Jeff Dubois.On the Eastside, power was cut to about 1,500 customers in the Somerset, Newport Shores and Newport Hills areas early Thursday morning.Snow began falling late Wednesday afternoon in South Sound areas, and it spread north during the night.In southern Thurston County, there was about an inch of snow on the ground and most roads were clear Thursday morning, said KIRO 7 Eyewitness News reporter Richard Thompson.Some flurries left cars dusted in Lewis County, he said.In Mason County, there was a trace of snow on the ground. In the Lake Cushman and Hoodsport areas, about a half inch fell overnight and it was still snowing Thursday morning, Thompson said.About 4 inches of snow was on the ground in Enumclaw, said KIRO 7 Eyewitness News reporter Jeff Nguyen.Wet snow or snow mixed with rain are possible through the morning, especially above 500 feet, said KIRO 7 meteorologist Rick VanCise. Any snow will turn to rain Thursday afternoon, when high temperatures reach the mid-40s.
