A Washington State trooper is taken to the hospital after a crash in Pierce County.

The accident happened in the northbound lanes of Interstate 5 in Fife early Saturday morning.

The state patrol said the trooper had pulled over an 18-year-old woman for suspicion of drunk driving.

The trooper and the young woman, and an applicant to the state patrol academy were all seated in the patrol car.

That's when another driver rear-ended the patrol car. All three people in the trooper's car were taken to hospitals with minor injuries.

The driver who hit the patrol car was taken into custody. The state patrol says he was drunk.
