$1M Bail Set For Suspect Arrested In Britt Slaying

FEDERAL WAY, Wash. -- One million dollars is the bail set for the suspect arrested in the slaying of Jane Britt.The suspect, 24-year-old Joseph Njonge, appeared in court Saturday. He has no charges formally filed against him.Njonge was arrested after the Washington State Patrol Crime Lab said it discovered DNA from Njonge matched DNA found underneath Britt’s fingernails.Court documents said Njonge was arrested Thursday at the Garden Terrace Alzheimer Center of Excellence, where he was employed as a certified nursing assistant.The Garden Terrace is also the same place where 75-year-old Jane Britt was last seen alive after visiting her husband who is a resident there, according to investigators.The King County medical examiner said Britt had defensive wounds on her hand indicating a struggle with her attacker. Britt died of strangulation.When Njonge was arrested he had Frank Britt’s, Jane’s husband, Costco card in his wallet. Njonge denied having any contact with Britt and he denied killing her, said police.KIRO 7 reporter Stacy Sakamoto reports the court gallery was filled with more than two dozen of Njonge’s family and friendsCharges are expected to be filled Tuesday.
