Police Involved In Standoff At Lakewood Apartment

A standoff is in progress between police and a man suspected in a robbery and kidnapping, reported KIRO 7 Eyewitness News.

The man is believed to be inside a Lakewood apartment building at Bridgeport Way and Custer Street.

KIRO 7 Eyewitness News reporter Kevin McCarty said the incident started when a man and his former girlfriend ended their relationship and were dividing their belongings.

On Sunday night, the woman arranged a meeting with her former boyfriend at her home. When the man arrived, he was lured into the bedroom where there were two men waiting for him, police said.

Lt. David Guttu of Lakewood police said a sack was pulled over the man’s head, he was beaten with an assault-type rifle and threatened by the two assailants. Guttu said that the man was then driven by the two attackers past Carbonado and dumped in a rural area.

The victim notified police. Police and SWAT officers responded at apartments shortly before 4 p.m. Monday where they believe one of the man’s attackers is inside, possibly armed with a rifle.

Police said the other man’s whereabouts are not known.

The 21-year-old woman involved in the incident was taken into police custody Monday morning.

KIRO 7 Eyewitness News reporter Kyle Moore said Monday afternoon that the police expected to be at the scene for several more hours.

Children at a nearby day care center, Creative Kids, were put on transit buses, and parents who wanted to pick up their children were advised to pick them up at the Lakewood YMCA at 9715 Lakewood Driver, Moore reported.
