Britt Murder Suspect Tells KIRO 7 He Didn’t Do It

In an exclusive jailhouse interview, murder suspect Joseph Njonge says he didn’t kill 75-year-old Jane Britt.

KIRO 7 reporter Deborah Horne said Njonge had tears in his eyes as he denied murdering Jane Britt and putting her body in the trunk of her car.

Joseph Njonge, 26, is being held at the King County Jail on $1 million bail.

Njonge told Horne he doesn't belong in jail because he didn't do it.

Jane Britt was the wife of a patient at the Garden Terrace Nursing Home in Federal Way where Njonge was an employee.

Prosecutors said they have indisputable evidence that he did commit the slaying when his DNA was found under the fingernails of Britt.

"What do you expect? I was in close contact with her all the time,” said Njonge. “How could I do that to someone who nominated me twice for employee of the month?" he asked. Horne said he shook his head and then began to cry.

Joseph Njonge said he took care of Jane Britt's husband for a year.

He will be back in court next week when he is formally arraigned.
