SLIDESHOW: Truck Crash Leaves Smashed Rig, Field Of Debris

The crash happened at the intersection of state Route 526 and Everett Mall Way at about 4:15 a.m., officials said.

The collision sent one of the drivers through the driver’s door of his truck, killing him, officials said. The other driver, a 32-year-old Fife man was taken to the hospital and later released. He was not seriously injured.

An initial investigation by police found that a tractor-trailer rig was traveling eastbound on SR 526. Another tractor without a trailer was traveling northbound on Everett Mall Way. The two collided at the intersection.

Officials said the intersection is controlled by traffic signals. It is not yet clear who had the right of way at the time of the collision.

The Department of Transportation said SR 526 and Everett Mall Way were closed for nearly six hours while investigators cleared the scene.

Video from KIRO 7 Eyewitness News showed the smashed front end of the truck whose driver was thrown from the vehicle. The side of the other truck's cab was damaged. Scattered debris could be seen over a wide area of the roadway.

Police say if anyone witnessed this collision to call the Everett Police Department at (425) 257-8540.
