Two Newport High School seniors, along with two adults, were returning from a college visit when a three-car accident killed one of the girls and an adult.

The accident occurred around 2 p.m. Friday on state Highway 26 in Adams County, Wash.

Seventeen-year-old Callie B. Turner was traveling with her mother, 55-year-old Deborah K. Turner, her mother’s boyfriend, 56-year-old Matthew Andresen, and the daughter’s friend, 18-year-old Taryn L. Gillies.

The four were returning from a college visit to Washington State University.

According to the State Patrol, the victims were traveling in a 1994 Dodge Caravan, driven by Andresen of Redmond, when the van collided with a U-Haul truck.

Andresen and the daughter’s friend, Gillies, died at the scene.

The mother and daughter in the car were injured and airlifted to Spokane’s Sacred Heart Medical Center. Both of their conditions have been upgraded to stable.

Forty-six-year-old Michael A. Turner, of Soap Lake, was driving the third vehicle. He was taken to Ritzville Rural Hospital, where he was treated and released.
