Homicide Victim Identified As Missing Ferndale Teacher

POSTED: 8:13 am PDT April 30, 2008
UPDATED: 4:45 pm PDT April 30, 2008

Authorities have confirmed that a man found shot to death near Alger is a missing Ferndale teacher.

Detectives from the Skagit County Sheriff's Office on Wednesday said they received confirmation that the body discovered over the weekend on Blanchard Mountain is that of Jeremy Sean Scully, 38.

The special processing center of the FBI was able to match a fingerprint from the body to fingerprints on file belonging to Scully, they said.

Scully was last seen Thursday, and his car was found Saturday near Lake Samish with the door ajar and the key in the ignition. Hikers on Blanchard Mountain found a body in a rugged area in Skagit County near Alger on Sunday.

Skagit County sheriff's detectives served a search warrant on the home of Scully's friends in Alger. Those friends told KIRO 7 at the time of his disappearance that Scully was heading there last Thursday morning.

District Court documents obtained by KIRO 7 Eyewitness News show deputies seized marijuana, ammunition, firearms and a computer from that Alger home.

Police also took Jeremy Scully's computer from his Bellingham apartment, which has now been taped off by authorities.

Detectives will be looking into Scully's Internet activity including alleged membership to the website Adultfriendfinder.com where adults meet adults for sex.

After word came down that Scully has been positively identified as a homicide victim, his family issued a statement. In part it reads, "Jeremy was loved by all those whose lives he touched. His family appreciates the kind thoughts that have been expressed by Jeremy's friends, students, colleagues and the athletes that he coached."

Scully was a substitute teacher in the Ferndale School District and also helped coach pole vaulters.
