SEATTLE -- The city's largest May Day march started an hour late, but made its way through downtown Seattle with thousands in tow.

The marchers were west on Jackson Avenue and continued to Fourth Avenue where they ended at the Seattle Center.

Metro Transit riders were told to expect delays, but it's unclear how long the delays went during the afternoon commute Thursday.

Dozens of people gathered on the Seattle waterfront in the noon hour for an anti-war rally and march.

Many of the people carrying signs were members of the longshore union, taking off on May Day.

The crowd carries signs saying "No Iraq War" and "Stop the war on immigrants and Iraq." It was marching to Pier 66 where another anti-war group was heading from Seattle Central Community College.

KIRO 7 South Sound Bureau Chief Richard Thompson reported Olympia also saw their share of protests. According to police, protesters broke windows at a pair of banks in downtown Olympia.

Olympia police arrested six people Thursday, and more than two dozen people gathered outside City Hall.

The State Patrol says a May Day rally also spread to the Capitol, disrupting activities there and leaving some graffiti in the marble halls.

A group endorsed by a number of organizations had a permit to rally at a park downtown and march to the Capitol, calling for immigrant rights and an end to the war in Iraq.
