Couple Named ‘Persons Of Interest’ In Slain Teacher Case

POSTED: 1:22 pm PDT April 30, 2008
UPDATED: 4:04 pm PDT May 1, 2008

Police have identified friends of a teacher whose body was found near Alger as “persons of interest” in his death, reported KIRO 7 Eyewitness News.

Detectives from the Skagit County Sheriff's Office confirmed Wednesday that the body of a man found shot to death in Skagit County was missing Ferndale teacher 38-year-old Jeremy Scully.

Skagit County sheriff's detectives served a search warrant on the home of a married couple in Alger. Those friends told KIRO 7 at the time of his disappearance that Scully was heading there last Thursday morning.

District Court documents obtained by KIRO 7 Eyewitness News show deputies seized marijuana, ammunition, firearms and a computer from that Alger home.

The Bellingham Herald reported that a woman who lives at the home told detectives she had been having an affair with Scully. She said Scully was headed to the home to help the woman's husband fix the roof when he vanished.

Police took Jeremy Scully's computer from his Bellingham apartment, which has now been taped off by authorities.

Detectives said they will be looking into Scully's Internet activity including alleged membership to a Web site where adults meet adults for sex.

Scully’s body was discovered over the weekend on Blanchard Mountain by hikers in a rugged area. The victim was last seen on Thursday.

The special processing center of the FBI was able to match a fingerprint from the body found to fingerprints on file belonging to Scully, they said.

After word came down that Scully has been positively identified as a homicide victim, his family issued a statement. In part it reads, "Jeremy was loved by all those whose lives he touched. His family appreciates the kind thoughts that have been expressed by Jeremy's friends, students, colleagues and the athletes that he coached."

Scully was a substitute teacher in the Ferndale School District and also helped coach pole vaulters.
