BELLINGHAM, Wash. -- It’s been one week since a Lynden man went missing while attempting to climb Mount Baker alone.Search and rescue crews have suspended their search for 31-year-old Kevin LaFleur who went missing last Saturday.LaFleur's vehicle was located on Glacier Creek Road, at the snowline, which indicated that he intended to climb Baker using the standard route, officials said.Ryan LaFleur Kevin’s brother, flew in from Boston when he heard his brother was missing. He has been aiding in the search."I’m an impatient guy and waiting around just isn’t my strength. I want to be up there searching," he said.Friends said it was unlikely that he became lost, as he had taken the route 25 to 30 times. Some friends of LaFleur spent Monday night at about the 5,200-foot level reported 50 mph winds and heavy snow through the night. On Tuesday, about 25 volunteers searched the lower areas of Heliotrope Ridge on the west side of the mountain and the lower Easton Glacier on the south side, the sheriff's office said. The weather stalled the search for LaFleur on Wednesday, and resumed Thursday.KIRO 7 reporter Chris Legeros who was at the scene Thursday said snowmobilers were providing transportation to the 6,200 feet elevation. Searchers cited the poor visibility for not being able to check the missing hiker's possible route between the 7,000 feet elevation and the summit at 10,000 feet."We’re hoping that he had an accident where he broke a ski or sprained an ankle or something like that where he was just able to hunker down," said Tim Terpstra, a friend of LaFleur.
