KING COUNTY, Wash. -- A 25-year-old cold case has been reopened in hopes of finding the murderer of a 13-year-old boy.Patrick Cress, 13 years old at the time, was found dead in the Kingsgate area of unincorporated King County on May 18, 1983, according to the King County Sheriff’s Office.A Puget Power crew working at a construction site discovered the body. The site was near Northeast 132nd Street and 116th Way Northeast, which is where the Woodlake Apartments are currently located.Detectives are looking for adults in their late 30s or early 40s who were teenagers and lived in the area at the time of the homicide and would have attended Kamiakin Junior High School or Juanita High School at the time. Police believe they may have information that could help the investigation.New information released by detectives said that before the body was found, rumors circulated by teenagers in the neighborhood indicated that Patrick was dead. It’s a slight possibility the police don’t know yet so don’t tell ‘cause that would might be wrong."Detectives would like to know the author or intended recipient of the note.Police ruled the boy’s death a homicide as he suffered blunt force trauma.Cress was last seen on April 30, 1983. He was leaving a friend’s house and walking to the parking lot of the Juanita Firs Safeway where his parents planned to pick him up. Patrick spoke with his parents moments before he left his friend’s house. After Patrick never arrived, his parents reported him missing. His friend’s house was several hundred yards north of where his body was found, said police.Patrick’s father, Dick Cress, is asking the public for help to solve the case.
