A man's body was found stuffed in a small closet in an Everett apartment Wednesday, and it may have been there for several days, police and neighbors told KIRO 7 Eyewitness News.

Salvation Army Captain Dana Libby got a call from an informant Wednesday, saying there was a dead body in an Everett apartment building.

"His understanding was the other person that was present had been pouring bleach on the body to keep the smell from pervading this residence," said Libby.

Libby went to the apartment and smelled bleach. He called police and encouraged the man who lives here to turn himself in.

When detectives searched the house on Lombard Street in Everett they found 46-year-old Dean Almquist dead, his body hidden in a closet.

According to police, Almquist was dead three to four days.

Police arrested 35-year-old Roland Nunley who rented a room in the basement of the house.

"That's a pretty unusual occurrence to keep a body inside the same location you are residing, it's very unusual," said Robert Goetz of the Everett Police Department.

Nunley appeared in court Thursday and is being held on suspicion of second-degree murder. He is behind bars on $300,000 bail.

The victim's sister and mother were at the bail hearing.

"As far as I know he was visiting a friend and now the friend's in jail," said Dawn Vanderlugt, the victim’s sister.

Captain Libby said the suspect and victim were acquaintances, and he'd never seen the suspect act violent.

"I felt safe enough to go there by myself and talk to him, because I had a good enough relationship with him that he's never been aggressive with me," said Libby.

Police do not know the cause of death. They are awaiting the results of an autopsy and toxicology test results.
