UPDATED: 10:14 am PDT May 11, 2008

An 18-year-old motocross rider from Orting died during a practice run for a race.

Rocky Gesner was practicing for a race that would happen later in the afternoon when he crashed on the track around 8:45 a.m. Saturday, according to the Clark County Sheriff’s Office.

Gesner was wearing all of his protective gear, but medics said he died on the scene.

He was preparing for rounds five and six of a Northwest National MX Series race at the Washougal motocross track near Vancouver, Wash.

Brian Barnes, a spokesman for the Washougal MX park, said Gesner was riding the downhill section of an intermediate level class race when he crashed.

Barnes said Gesner was familiar with the track and frequently attended races there.
