Port Of Seattle Buys Eastside Rail Corridor

Posted: 1:13 pm PDT May 12, 2008

The Port of Seattle officially purchased a stretch of Burlington Northern Santa Fe’s rail line that runs from Snohomish to Renton in a multimillion-dollar deal on Monday.

Port commissioners voted unanimously Monday morning on the deal for $107 million that was signed in the afternoon.

King County Executive Ron Sims proposed the deal in 2006. The venture also includes the nearly $2 million purchase of an easement from the port by King County for a trail along the rail corridor.

Officials said the public will decide what the rail will be used for.
