Son, Mother Plead Guilty In Pit Bull Attack

POSTED: 10:27 am PDT May 15, 2008
UPDATED: 6:39 pm PDT May 15, 2008

A man and his mother who owned two pit bulls that severely mauled a woman in her home last August pleaded guilty to charges on Thursday.

Zachary Martin, 20, and Shellie Wilson, 46, pleaded guilty to two counts of attempting to own a dog that attacks, charges that were reduced from owning a dog that attacks.

Martin and Wilson's pit bulls entered 59-year-old Sue Gorman's home near Gig Harbor, killed a neighbor's Jack Russell terrier that was visiting and tore at her arms, ripping large holes in her skin.

Gorman was hospitalized and said she was afraid to return home following the attack last August.

The dogs' owners were sentenced to four years probation, two years of suspended jail time and 30 days on electronic home monitoring. They are also required to pay restitution to the victim and not own dogs.
