SEATTLE -- UPS is using a novel practice to cut the fuel costs of its drivers.

The company said it is saving time and fuel by having drivers avoid making left turns whenever possible to eliminate idling times while waiting to turn.

UPS said the idea saved the company nearly 3 million gallons of fuel last year.
