THURSTON COUNTY, Wash. -- Eight horses, some just a few weeks old, were rescued from a home in Thurston County and their owner could soon face animal cruelty charges, reported KIRO 7 Eyewitness News. Teresa King from Hooved Animal Rescue of Thurston County showed KIRO 7 the condition of eight horses just rescued from a home south of Olympia."You've got the backbones sticking up which shouldn't you've got the hip bones sticking up which shouldn't and this should all be round," said King. The horses, many malnourished, were seized from this property where investigators said they were living in unfit conditions.Investigators said one of the horses was kept in small dog kennel, the stalls were covered with feces and some water containers were empty others unfit to drink."The water was green the top was covered with little mosquito larvae," said King. A mini-horse was found without food or water tied to a car bumper. The foals, who are just weeks old, were struggling to get the nutrients they need from their mothers because they were so skinny, said King. Sheriff's officials said when the animals were taken from the property the owner admitted she had not been able to keep up with their care.Police said they've received complaints about the horses' care since 2004. They said they tried to work with the 22-year-old woman who owned them to resolve the care issues, but investigators said when they saw the current condition of the animals they had no choice but to take them away.
