SEATTLE -- As part of the fight against climate change, Seattle Mayor Greg Nickels is asking citizens to drive 1,000 miles less each year and unveiled a plan to make it more convenient to use buses and bicycles in some places, reported KIRO 7 Eyewitness News.Part of his plan revealed on Wednesday included reserving one lane in each direction for buses and bicycles during rush hour on 15th Avenue West. Some citizens said they were concerned about the already packed streets during that time."That's going to cause quite the traffic congestion in the afternoon," said Kalisha Mickalich. The same plan is slated for Mercer Street headed toward the freeway.
"It isn't just about how many cars we can slam through a neighborhood on an arterial, it's about how we can build a community that needs fewer cars," said Nickels. The mayor also showed a new billboard that urges drivers to use their cars less.
