A former South Kitsap High School teacher has been charged with sexual misconduct, accused of having a relationship with a 17-year-old student.

Ryann Springer, 25, pleaded innocent to the charges of first-degree sexual misconduct filed in Kitsap County Superior Court Friday.

Springer was arrested earlier in the week after allegations surfaced that she was having an ongoing sexual relationship with a 17-year-old girl at South Kitsap High School.

The student told police "there had been inappropriate touching that had occurred at the school," as well as "sexual contact with the suspect at her residence" on at least four separate occasions in Gig Harbor.

The allegations first surfaced when a school resources officer was told about inappropriate text messages and suspicious behavior by both Springer and the student.

Springer remains in the Kitsap County Jail with her bail set at $150,000.

If convicted, Springer could face up to five years in prison and a fine up to $10,000.

The next hearing in the case is set for June 18.
