Judge Won't Answer Jury's Question In Haq Trial

The Seattle jury deliberating a verdict in the trial of the man accused of shooting up a Jewish Federation office asked the judge for clarification of the legal definition of insanity.

The judge could provide no clarification to instructions the jury already received.

This is Day 6 of deliberations in the trial of Naveed Haq, who killed one wound and wounded five. The King County Superior Court jury is deciding whether Haq will go to a prison or a mental hospital. The 32-year-old Tri-Cities man pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity to murder, attempted murder and other charges. He faces a total of 15 counts.

A mental health expert who testified for the defense says Haq thought he was on a mission from God and unable to tell right from wrong when he shot up the office in July 2006. The prosecutor's expert agrees Haq has mental problems but knew what he was doing.

After five weeks of testimony the case went to the jury May 23.
