University Place Business Destroyed By Vandalism

UNIVERSITY PLACE, Wash. -- A business was destroyed by vandalism and graffiti Thursday night in University Place.Trish Behnke, is the manager of Strictly Tan, a tanning salon in the 1900 block of Bridgeport Way.Behnke told KIRO-7 that a burglar or burglars stole around $1,000 cash, trashed all the tanning beds, sprayed racist graffiti and punched holes in the walls.Police are still investigating whether this is a hate crime or if the shop was targeted for another reason, said Ed Troyer of the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department.Behnke said they will not reopen for several months and she plans to relocate the business.When asked how the vandalism made her feel, Behnke said, “Scared that someone would do something like to destroy somebody’s life.”Crimestoppers is offering a reward of up to $1,000 for anyone with information leading to the arrest and conviction of the vandals.
