Woman Who Attacked Sex Offender Bailed Out

The woman who beat a Level 3 sex offender with a bat last week was bailed out of jail overnight.

Tammy Gibson, 40, was bailed out by her sister, Julia Borrayo, said KIRO 7 Eyewitness News reporter Kevin McCarty.

"I think she did the right thing; she did what she thought was right at the time. I mean, if I was in her position, I would have done the same thing," said Borrayo.

She posted $750 in cash and will pay the balance of a $1,500 bond in payments to Advanced Bail Bonds of Tacoma.

When asked how it feels to be out, Gibson responded with, “Ooh, great. It feels great; it feels great.”

Gibson was charged with first-degree assault and felony harassment in the attack last Monday on William Baldwin, 24. She is due back in court on July 28.

Gibson acknowledged she beat Baldwin after learning from fliers posted in the neighborhood that he had recently moved in. The fliers detailed Baldwin's conviction for molesting two 5-year-old girls when he was a teenager.

After KIRO 7 aired a jailhouse interview Thursday with Gibson following her arrest, she began getting calls from people around the country.

"As soon as they seen her on TV, they called here. As a matter of fact, we got three or four calls right away," said Tony Hyatt, Gibson’s brother, after stories appeared last week.

The most support for Gibson has come from her own family. Her sister scraped up bail money to get her out of jail, and her daughters are happy to have their mom home.

When Gibson's daughter, Rene Perez, was asked what she thought about what her mother did, Perez said, "I'm glad because she was trying to protect me."

Baldwin was arrested after the attack on suspicion of failing to register as a sex offender.
