SULTAN, Wash. -- Detectives arrested the ex-girlfriend of a slain Sultan man and her new boyfriend Friday in connection with his death, spokeswoman Rebecca Hover for the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office said.

The 46-year-old woman reported to police that she found the 49-year-old man dead in his bed at about 6 a.m. on June 26 in the 12800 block of 311 Avenue Southeast, said Hover.

Detectives said the woman and the victim had lived together in her house as a couple for about three years before breaking up a few months ago. The victim refused to move out, police said, even when the woman got a new boyfriend and he stayed over at the house.

Detectives said they believe the 30-year-old boyfriend carried out the slaying with the knowledge of his girlfriend.

Results of the autopsy released by the Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office said he died of homicidal violence.

The man and woman were arrested and booked into the Snohomish County Jail on one count each of first-degree murder.

The woman’s elderly mother also lives in the house, but she was not injured.
