Burien Families Left Homeless By Fatal Fire

Posted: 4:46 pm PDT July 1, 2008Updated: 9:08 am PDT July 2, 2008

An arson fire that killed three people at a Burien apartment complex has left more than a dozen families homeless.

No arrests have been made in the fire on Southwest 155th Street that broke out early Sunday.

Moriah Marlin’s family is one of 15 left homeless by the fire.

“Amazingly enough, when I went to the backside of the building, my apartment was the only one that wasn’t totally scorched,” said Marlin.

The unit is uninhabitable.

King County fire crews sifted through the wreckage Tuesday looking for clues in the fire that investigators said was intentionally set.

Johnathan Blake lived next door to the two apartment buildings that were destroyed and personally knew the second-grade student who was killed in the fire.

Neighbors identified the 8-year-old boy as Edgar Cisneros. Blake said Edgar loved art and wrote his name numerous time’s on Blake’s fence.

“He was – you know – my little friend,” said Blake.

Many of those displaced are getting assistance from the Red Cross and staying at a shelter less than a mile from the burned building.

There is also a grassroots effort at Collins Chiropractic Clinic in downtown Burien to get clothes and household items to the fire victims.
